Pavis News and FAQs

Pavis has changed at lot recently, and I know a player who has a bit of trouble keeping up.

Rather than disturb the crickets in Mike's email box, I thought I'd post my questions here.

Pavis News and FAQs

What of Rass Manor's offensive resources do we still have?

I'm thinking of animateable gargoyles, guardian spirits, sawn-off seige weapons and other things that come in handy when visiting Zorak Zorani.

(Note that we don't want to strip the manor; it's the second most likely place for a vengeful counterattack from the fanatical followers of the god of death and... vengeance.)

Lunar Authority

What are the Lunars doing as far as activities in the trolllands? Will they care? If we need to hide, is it to avoid taxes, or in fear for our lives?

Manor Resources, Lunars

Most manor resources of the earlier era are not available. Now they are focused in Badeye, your guardian.

As a side note, one thing you might want to consider doing is questing for increased abilities for Badeye.

Other hero band guardians may also be able to help.

Physical defenses are better than they used to be, but still aren't great. You have solid stone walls everywhere, but that's the biggest difference.

The Lunars arecurrently practicing what appears to be a policy of malevolent (as opposed to benign) neglect. They think Orlanth is dead, they expect all Orlanthi to die, they hope many of the problems in the rubble will freeze solid. They're staying in their city as much as possible.

Lunars are not patrolling in or even near the huntlands. Perhaps they expect the trolls to eat all the rebels. In fact, that's not far from the truth, barring the intervention of Speth and Will.

What have other people heard from their gods about Orlanth?

What is the procedure when your god dies? Do you find a new patron deity? Spin it to make it seem as though He meant to do that?

I want to see the body, or at least hear a blow-by-blow.

On a unrelated subject, can sorcerors do anything cool with the corpse of a powerful supernatural being of some sort?

High Priest: Orlanth! You're back!
Orlanth: BRAAAINS!

your god says...

Gods only know about their area of speciality. Don't ask Ernalda about clouds or Orlanth about rocks. Pavis doesn't know about Orlanth, except to say "He is a friend, by treaty." No one you have met can say anything beyond "Orlanth is dead." but see the next answer.

This is the great darkness. Get ready to fight.
When the gods die, all survivors must rally against the end of the world. So a heortling initiation would teach you, through the I Fought We Won mythic experience. Orlanth did not participate in this--he was in the underworld on the lightbringer's quest.

If your god dies, you don't have to worry about retribution when you pick a new god.

As the months pass, rumor comes that the Governor General of Dragon Pass, Tatius the Bright has begun some great magic to raise a new Temple of the Reaching Moon in Sartar, and that his magic required the death of Orlanth to succeed.

In one scheme, there are four kinds of gods:
Dead ones, killed somewhere in the Golden through Darkness Ages.
Splendid Yamsur, Genert, Umath, thousands of others whose names are lost

Dead and reborn ones. like the above, but they got better.
Yelm/Evil Emperor, Ernalda(?) Voria, The Red Goddess, Barntar

Gods who survived the Great Darkness without dying.
Yelmalio, Elmal, Babeester Gor, Humakt, Zorak Zoran, Mallia, Thed, Bagog, Valind, Xentha, Subere, Kyger Litor, Dayzatar, Jagkrigeriand/Shargash, Heort, Storm Bull, Daga, Maran Gor, Krarsht. Most grim and dangerous gods, some who simply retreated from the world.

Gods who did not exist prior to Time.
Pavis, The Seven Mothers, many lunar gods.

Perhaps there's a 5th category, gods who went to the underworld, which is the land of the dead, but may not have been dead while there: The lightbringers (Orlanth, Ginna Jar, Lhankor Mhy, Issaries, Chalana Arroy, Eurmal.)

Yes.

Orlanth is not just the god of wind. He is the wind itself, as big as all the winds. Good luck finding his body.
