Because no one else is doing it

First off, I can't find another site on the web with the technical sophistication of Drupal, an open source content management system that powers this site.

Most other game sites use proprietary software, or don't use most of the capabilities of the site, or only act as fronts for a single company's stuff. So there's nothing else out there like this site, and that will only grow more true as the contributors to Commonworlds show me what they want out of the site. We can add email notifications, automatically generated newsletters, self-created and managed working groups, project management, wikis, you name it. Look at http://drupal.org for a list of some of the things that are possible.

Commonworlds uses modern technology to obscure email addresses from spam bots, prevent comment robots from logging in and automatically turn urls into links. Because there's something called an "xmlrpc" submission method, you can use tools like Ecto, w.bloggar or MarsEdit to submit to the site, making it easier to post formatted material. No other gaming web site I can find does all these things.
